Darcy Burner lost one of the closest Congressional races in the country by a mere 3,000 votes.as she tried to upset the incumbent in Washington's 8th District. Let's hope in 2008 she wins and can represent us all in Congress.
Darcy promises to be a strong advocate for working families by fighting for affordable health care, protecting our retirement and standing up to big business.
To quote her positions on some key issues:
- "Social Security and private pensions are critical
to our retirement system. Both are promises made to working people that
Congress should fight to keep. Privatization will cut guaranteed Social
Security benefits nearly in half – thus actually putting the system in
crisis. I will fight against risky schemes that will destroy it."
- "I support rolling back the billions in tax breaks
and subsidies this Congress gave to big oil companies and I support
stiff penalties for price gouging. I believe we need a plan for energy
independence, and that’s why I support investing in alternative energy
technologies that can create jobs right here in Washington State."
- "I will fight in Congress for
working families who are struggling to pay skyrocketing health care
bills. I will take on the big drug and insurance companies to negotiate
lower prices, and work toward affordable, quality care that people
deserve."
Darcy signed the America In Solidarity pledge in 2006. We hope to see her on another ballot in 2008.
