Trade. Current trading practices are hurting American workers and our economy. AIS will advocate for fair trade policies, renegotiating the WTO, NAFTA and CAFTA to include stronger protections for worker’s and environmental rights. We will work closely with the Washington Fair Trade Coalition and Citizen Trade Council to convince Congress to put the worker's interest before the corporations' when it comes to trade.
Health Care. AIS advocates for a single-payer, national health care system and all steps that will help achieve the goal of affordable, quality health care for all. With over 45 million Americans lacking health care insurance, this needs to be a priority on the state and federal level. Congress must pass the SCHIP legislation that was vetoed last year. We will work closely with Healthy Washington Coalition and Health Care For All.
Worker’s Rights. Follow the AFL-CIO’s and Washington State Labor Council’s lead on supporting legislation that helps workers and unions. Our highest priority will be to pass the Employee Free Choice Act on the federal level and to support legislation on the state level that helps workers and promotes the right to organize.
Living Wages. Support initiatives and legislation that increase living wage standards and enacts living wage ordinances. The current contrast between CEO compensation and low workers wages is dentrimental toward a healthy economy.
Elections Reform and Clean Elections. Work with Washington Public Campaigns to enact legislation that furthers clean elections in our state and on the national level. Help increase awareness of voter fraud and stolen elections.
Sustainable Economic Policies. Support America’s working families by supporting efforts to reduce and quickly end the occupation of Iraq by American military forces. Be an active voice for working families in the face of corporate greed and encourage elected officials to put people ahead of profits through lobbying and issue advocacy.
Secure Retirement. Protect pensions and Social Security and help ensure that American workers can retire at a decent age and afford their later years.
