There's a huge opportunity for clean, fair, publicly financed
elections next Tuesday, and it needs your help! California has a
full Clean Money public financing initiative on the ballot:
Proposition 89, the California Clean Money and Fair Elections Act.

Proposition 89 would provide full public financing for all state
offices and is modeled on Arizona and Maine's groundbreaking Clean
Elections laws. (It also includes some other changes to existing
campaign laws that have been more controversial, which we probably
would have preferred not be in the bill. But we like the public
financing part very much.)

We don't have to tell you how much a victory in California would mean
to the Clean Elections movement in the rest of the country and how
huge of a step it would be to making politicians accountable to
voters everywhere. That's why giant out-of-state corporations,
including Conoco/Phillips, State Farm, Travelers insurance, and
United Healthcare Services are contributing millions to try to defeat
it.

Fortunately, there's a coalition of over nearly 300 organizations
fighting for Prop 89 in California and strong support nationally from
Public Campaign, Common Cause, and other groups.

How You Can Help:

Almost everybody has friends or family in California. And everybody
can help call likely voters in California to tell them how important
Prop 89 is to the whole country.

Let's stop political corruption now and take back our democracy from
special interests. Your participation in the coming days is crucial.
We're asking you to do one or more of three things to help rewrite
the political landscape:

1) Watch the hilarious TV spot for Prop 89! Ever feel like you're
being pounded by negative political ads? Then watch the hilarious
Prop 89 TV spot that will instantly make you say "I know how that
feels!" and that quickly became the number one political ad on
Youtube. Then pass it on to your friends in California! And
contribute to help keep it on the air if you can.

2) Tell all of your friends in California to vote Yes on 89. You
can use 89now.org's easy tell-a-friend system with a message that's
ready to go. http://www.89now.org/tellafriend. Or just forward this
message.

Then follow up with phone calls with them. Don't let them vote the
wrong way because they haven't heard from you about Prop 89!

3) Phone bank from home for Prop 89. Volunteers throughout
California and the country are calling likely voters to ask them to
vote for Prop 89. Contact unai@89now.org to get a list of
persuadable California voters to call and a script to use.
