America In Solidarity is a Tacoma-based non-profit that serves working families in the political arena and works on issues such as affordable health care, living wages, fair trade and workers’ rights. We are seeking interns who are looking for experience in the political arena, community organizing and elections and share a passion for our issues.
Responsibilities will include:
· Communicate with elected officials and lobby on behalf of America In Solidarity on issues we care about
· Represent America In Solidarity at community fairs and festivals
· Registering people to vote
· Recruit volunteers
· Mobilize and lead volunteers in phonebanks, neighborhood canvassing and other election-related areas
· Document volunteer efforts
· Work on website and database
· Assist with America In Solidarity events and fundraisers
These internships will be based out of our Tacoma office. Hours are a little flexible but will involve many nights and weekends.
Pay: $10-$12/hr plus expenses
Hours: 20-40/week. Many nights and weekends.
Time: Summer 2008 (depends on student’s school schedule) with the possibility of extending the internship through the November elections.
