Democrats will have more than one choice in Washington's 3rd and 6th Congressional Districts in 2008 as Cheryl Crist and Paul Richmond are challenging Democratic incumbents in their respective districts. Both Crist (an AIS volunteer since 2006) and Richmond recently signed our pledge to support working families.
Crist is running to get our troops out of Iraq and on a bold platform that includes universal health care, renewable energy and public campaign financing. She is running against Brian Baird, who signed the AIS pledge in 2004. Richmond, like Crist, was inspired to run because he thought the incumbent, Norm Dicks, was not representing the district. Dicks signed America In Solidarity's pledge in 2003.
"I'm excited that there is a choice for voters in 2008," said AIS President Todd Iverson about the addition of Crist and Richmond to the growing ranks of politicians and candidates who have signed the pledge. "While we will likely let them duke it out in the primaries, I think this will push the issues that concern working families--Iraq, affordable health care, trade issues--to the forefront. We can all benefit from Crist and Richmond and Dicks and Baird representing us on the issues."
