Pat McCarthy has not only accepted the Master Builders Ass'n endorsement.She is now taking their money through a PAC, "Better Pierce County", they have set up for the stated purpose of getting her elected Pierce County Executive. MBA, the pro-developer, anti-working people group, calls her their "#1 choice". They chose her over Republican Shawn Bunney! What do they expect to get for their PAC dollars?

A check of the WA State Public Disclosure Commission shows reports filed by "Better Pierce County" documenting expenditures of $32K+ to Comcast Spotlight, and $5K to KIRO for McCarthy ads (read the
small print on McCarthy ads currently running on Comcast).

The Governmental Affairs Director of the Master Builders Ass'n, Ms. T.Spiers, is the e-mail contact listed on the PAC's PDC reports. MBA is furiously working to defeat the re-election of Democratic candidate,Gov.Chris Gregoire and elect Republican Dino Rossi who rejects the "R"-label saying he "prefers GOP".

At the 9/11/08 Pierce County Democratic Central Committee meeting a motion was offered to endorse both Calvin Goings and Pat McCarthy as our Democratic candidates because they "are both good Democrats". In a generous unifying gesture,Goings rose and spoke in favor of unanimous passage of the dual endorsement. I doubt he would have done so had McCarthy's "unholy alliance" with the MBA PAC been known. I know that I, and other Precinct Committee Officers I know, would not have voted "yes"for the dual endorsement if we knew how Pat McCarthy has obligated herself to MBA by taking their money.

I know that candidates can't prevent independent groups from supporting them, but McCarthy could have repudiated MBA as other candidates have repudiated unwelcome backers. She could have said "Thanks but no thanks" to their money-bridge to anti-worker, pro-big developer interests. Instead, she chose to side with the group that wants to elect Dino Rossi, the anti-labor, anti-choice candidate who, among other things, wants to let pharmacists and health care providers put their personal "conscience" between patient and physician by refusing to provide doctor-prescribed medications and treatments.

Pat McCarthy entered the County Executive race very late, after Calvin Goings had been personally committed to his campaign for County Executive for many months, doorbelling and getting his message out to Pierce County citizens. She argued that she,too, should be allowed the "D", for Democratic, on the RCV ballot,claiming she is a "good Democrat".

A "good Democrat" does not climb into political "bed" with the same group that is all-out supporting a right-wing regressive candidate who opposes everything the Democratic Party stands for.

Pat McCarthy does not deserve the "D" after her name on the ballot. She should not have the benefit of the dual endorsement of the Pierce County Democratic Party and real Democrats should not include her when marking their Ranked Choice ballots.

I have had more than enough of Republican-Lite Faux Democrats--how about you?
